With an increasing focus on the role of expert witnesses in healthcare, Medical Protection would like to remind members that support is available for medicolegal expert work, subject to membership terms and applicable requirements.

Members undertaking expert witness work should do so only within their area of expertise and professional competence, while complying with relevant legal and regulatory obligations. Specialists should only provide opinions within their recognised area of practice. General Practitioners should limit their medicolegal work to matters that fall within the normal scope of general practice.

If any cross-border medicolegal work is being considered, members must contact Medical Protection in advance to confirm this work can be included in their membership.
