Commenting on the recent Hong Kong Medical Council decision in the Dr Wong case, Dr Ming Teoh, Head of Medical Services, Asia at Medical Protection said:

“Medical Protection is currently considering all options with regards to an appeal in the interests of our member and the wider profession.

While this was a tragic case for all involved, we fully understand the strength of feeling among doctors regarding the Medical Council’s decision and that the potential implications are understandably of concern to the entire healthcare community.

Medical Protection has long advocated an open culture of learning and improvement rather than one of blame for professionals when something goes wrong. Doctors need an environment where staff are trained and supported in admitting errors and learning from mistakes.
