Rachel is the Business Lead for Medical Protection in Ireland. Based in County Louth, she has worked for Medical Protection since 2002.

Rachel works closely with members in Ireland, engaging with all our main stakeholders on a range of different issues, including government policies impacting healthcare professionals and tort reform.

She also engages with stakeholders to ensure every doctor understands the importance of having their own individual medical indemnity.


Michelle Herbert

Based in Ireland, Michelle is responsible for working with our GP members to ensure their needs are being met. She also works closely with key stakeholders in the GP market to collaborate on initiatives on behalf of our members, such as providing support for newly qualified GPs in establishing their career path.

Michelle has over 20 years of business development experience across multiple sectors in the UK and Ireland, and is passionate about delivering excellent customer service.


Jamie Nugent

Jamie is our Relationship Manager for medical students and non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) in Ireland.

Her focus is to develop relationships across all student members from as early as their first year studying medicine.

Jamie travels across Ireland to our six medical colleges and universities to give introductory speeches to students explaining what indemnity is.

She is with them from the day they sign up, and her aim is to be there for our members when they need us most – the same way our members are there for their patients.

Dr Ellen Walshe

Ellen graduated from UCC and worked in general paediatrics and paediatric intensive care in Dublin and London. She has worked in the medicolegal field since 2007 while gaining postgraduate qualifications.

Ellen joined Medical Protection in 2020. She has extensive experience advising and supporting members throughout the UK and Ireland with ethical and legal issues including claims, regulatory, disciplinary, coronial and complaint investigations, and professional performance concerns. Her role is to support members through these investigations, explaining what to expect and answering questions.

Ellen works closely with solicitors and barristers in Dublin and Belfast to assist members with these processes.

She also frequently attends conferences on behalf of Medical Protection, and delivers training and education to our members.


Dr Gaynor Radley

Gaynor completed her medical degree with commendation at the University of Liverpool in 1997, and after a year of junior house jobs moved to Sheffield to undertake general practice training, receiving a merit in her RCGP exams.

She worked as a partner in general practice for six years alongside a GP with specialist interest role in substance misuse, becoming Clinical Director of Sheffield’s Primary Care substance misuse service in 2009. In this role she developed an interest in improving operational care delivery, becoming Medical Lead for Community Services at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals in 2014 with responsibility for Sheffield’s GP out of hours service.

Gaynor subsequently worked as a healthcare associate for a private company supporting NHS service development and transformation, followed by a brief return to NHS employment as South Yorkshire Integrated Stroke Delivery Network Manager. She undertook a graduate diploma in law, gaining a distinction in 2023.

Gaynor began work with Medical Protection in August 2024 and is currently training to provide comprehensive medicolegal support to the ROI members and team.

During her law degree Gaynor undertook formal CMC accredited training in civil, commercial and workplace mediation.

Rob Hendry

Rob is our Chief Member Officer, working with Medical Protection’s senior leadership team and external stakeholders, while leading on key issues that impact our members and the wider healthcare sector.

Rob is a native of Glasgow and studied medicine at Dundee University, graduating in 1981. He was a partner in an urban teaching practice in Dundee for over 12 years.

Rob is a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine and continues to have an interest in teaching, having honorary positions at several universities. He has an interest in mediation and has served on a number of governmental working parties looking at alternative approaches to dispute management.


Dr Sarah Townley

Sarah worked as a general practitioner before joining Medical Protection in 2009 as a Medicolegal Consultant. She provides legal and ethical guidance, supporting members with complaints, inquests, clinical negligence claims, regulatory, disciplinary, and criminal cases. During this time, Sarah has gained her diploma in Legal Medicine and membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine.
