Coronavirus information for members

With the on-going coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we know that this is a worrying time for everyone, but particularly for those healthcare practitioners who are providing frontline services and advice to patients. We understand your concerns and are here to offer support and advice if you need it. We have also provided some FAQs here.

We would urge all healthcare practitioners in the UK to be aware of and follow advice from the Government website and from NHS England, particularly those healthcare providers who may have responsibility for assessing possible cases of COVID-19. The GMC have also released guidance regarding how they will regulate during the crisis.

We appreciate that practitioners may have to change how they consult with their patients during the coronavirus crisis – which could mean holding remote consultations. Please be reassured that should you need to do a remote consultation with a patient whom you would ordinarily see face-to-face, your membership with Medical Protection will enable you to request assistance for matters that could arise from such consultations during this time. We have more information regarding remote consultations (telemedicine) here and a webinar recording on the topic here.

Please find more of the latest coronavirus updates and guidance below.

COVID-19 FAQ

Our main FAQ are globally relevant with any small location and country specific information clearly marked in the answers. For ease of use we have grouped these into two groups:

  • Membership and indemnity support
  • Medicolegal and clinical guidance
Our United Kingdom specific FAQ pertain to areas of practise specific to local legislation, circumstances and regulatory bodies.
If you have specific enquiries relating to the country or location in which you practise that are not covered here, please consult your local government and regulatory body for guidance.
