Each role type at MPS is unique so each recruitment journey can be a little different. We want to make sure we get the right fit so each journey is designed to ensure we get to know you properly in relation for the role you have applied for.
Here are the most common stages of the recruitment journey to give you a good idea of what you can expect; not every stage will be applicable for every role.
Anyone who applies for a role with us is required to complete our on line application process. You will be asked to create a profile and then answer a few standard questions. You will need to upload your CV at the end of this process and then we will get back in touch with you generally within 48 hours to advise of whether your application has been successful for further consideration.
Anyone who applies to work in our Member Operations call centre (who are our frontline colleagues) will be invited to attend a telephone interview. These roles are the voice of MPS deal directly with our members to administer our services, its essential that we assess how you able to answer phone based questions as this is a huge part of the actual role that you will do. We are looking for people who have got great customer service experience, so if you’re successful you will be put forward to an assessment centre.
All our telephone interviews are held with one of our recruitment team which generally lasts around 20 minutes . This is an opportunity for us to get to know you and ask questions which will support your application. It is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you have about us or the role you have applied for.
For our Front Line colleagues our assessment centre event will last around 2 hours, you will meet with our Team Leaders and Function Leads. This stage gives us the opportunity to assess your skills and experience and suitability for the role. You can expect an interactive activity, a written test, a presentation about MPS and what it’s like to work here and lastly an interview.
Assessment centres can happen for some of our other role types too and will typically take half a day.
Competency based interviews
All of our recruitment journeys include a competency based interviews. If you haven’t ever experienced a competency based interview before then all we are looking for are examples of when you have found yourself in certain situations in the workplace . You can refer to the STAR technique to give you some help around structuring a great competency based answer.
You will have an interview with the Hiring Manager of the department, where we will be looking to assess the suitability of your skills, knowledge and experience and it is a great opportunity for you to ask any questions about the role or organisation.
Other assessment methods
A work based scenario may include a written test or technical test depending on the nature of the role you have applied for.
If you are asked to take part in a presentation, the brief may be sent to you ahead of your interview to give you time to research and prepare on the topic to present back your thoughts.
Some role types might also include a coaching or a role play scenario, typically if you are going to be managing people. There is nothing you can prepare for here and you will be given all the information you will need on the day of assessment.
We also partner with an external company for roles that are in senior leadership teams and you would be expected to complete on-line psychometric tests and attend a full days assessment centre where your leadership skills will be thoroughly assessed.
