Recorded webinar: Consent for those who can’t consent for themselves: Guardianship, EPOA and Advance Directives

  • Dates: 02 Apr, 2020

Date recorded: Thursday 2 April 2020
Suitable for:
Medical Protection members in New Zealand

Does a 12 year old get a say in their care? What about a 15 year old? Is there a difference? What do we do when the person who holds enduring power of attorney is exhibiting challenging behaviour? When can we go against an advance directive?

We may wish consent was always a straight-forward process but unfortunately this is often not the case. Medical Protection regularly assists clinicians with questions and complaints regarding consent.

During this one-hour recorded webinar, Dr Samantha King explains how to safely navigate tricky consent dilemmas. She discusses who can consent for minors (or others who are unable to provide consent for themselves) and the legal limitations surrounding enduring power of attorney. She also addresses advance directives, when they must be followed and when they can be overlooked.

This recorded webinar is the ideal way to have the expertise of Medical Protection brought directly to you.
