Stress has always been a feature of everyday life for people in all professions. The demands on healthcare professionals can put them under particular pressure because of the responsibility for the well-being of their patients.
Added to these stresses are those caused by receiving and dealing with complaints, clinical negligence claims, disciplinary matters, and other medicolegal issues. The MPS counselling service has been introduced specifically to assist members suffering from stress as a result of such issues.
The counselling service is provided by Independent Counselling and Advisory Services (ICAS), a company specialising in counselling support for professional organisations.
The service is entirely independent and confidential – MPS is not informed of members’ contact with ICAS – and accessing the service is easy. Simply contact MPS and ask to speak to a medicolegal adviser, who will provide the contact details for ICAS. Details of the problem need not be given.
The service is provided by fully qualified, trained and registered psychologists or, where appropriate, social workers and face-to-face counselling sessions can be arranged near to you and at your convenience, all funded by MPS.
