Medical Protection is aware of the concerns many doctors are experiencing following delays in the processing and issuance of 2026 Annual Practising Certificates (APCs). We recognise the uncertainty this has created for practitioners and want to provide clear reassurance to our members.
Practising while your APC is being processed
In line with the statement issued by the Malaysian Medical Council, doctors who have submitted a complete APC application and made payment for Medical Protection membership by 31 December 2025 are permitted to continue practising while their application is being processed through the MeRITS system, provided there are no other statutory restrictions.
Your Medical Protection indemnity remains fully in force
For Medical Protection members, this means your professional indemnity protection continues uninterrupted during this interim period. Members who hold a valid Medical Protection membership for the period commencing 1 January 2026, and who submitted their APC application by the 31 December deadline, remain fully protected while their APC is pending.
This continuity of cover allows you to focus on delivering patient care with confidence, despite administrative delays outside your control.
Why discretionary indemnity matters
One of the key strengths of Medical Protection’s discretionary indemnity approach is that it provides the flexibility needed to respond sensibly and fairly to real-world regulatory and administrative challenges.
Our discretionary model enables Medical Protection to support members pragmatically during periods of uncertainty or disruption, ensuring protection remains aligned with their needs.
Ongoing support for members
Medical Protection will continue to work closely with the Malaysian Medical Association to support members and we will monitor developments closely and engage with relevant authorities where appropriate. We remain committed to supporting our members and providing clarity as the situation evolves.
If you have any questions about your indemnity status or require further guidance, our team is available to help.
