Medical Protection Society (MPS), the world’s leading protection organisation supporting almost 300,000 members around the world, has announced the appointment of Richard Pile as its new Executive Director for Finance.

Richard joins MPS from RSA, where he is currently Chief Financial Officer of RSA Luxembourg – the European arm of RSA Group. He spent 7 years at RSA in various senior finance roles, and prior to this, worked at Hyperion Insurance Group supporting its global expansion as Head of Group FP&A and Reporting. Richard started his career at Grant Thornton, where he qualified as an accountant, working within its financial services practice.

He will primarily focus on Finance, Investments, Business Information, Procurement and Facilities. He will oversee key areas in finance such as management reporting, statutory audits, budgeting and forecasting, finance business partnering and investment strategy.

Richard commented “MPS struck me as a great organisation, where members are firmly at the heart of everything they do. The Council and Executive Committee has set out a clear strategy around members, people and data and I am looking forward to working with them to help deliver this.”

MPS CEO, Simon Kayll, added: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to MPS and to the Executive team. He is a proven and experienced finance leader and brings with him a wealth of experience within finance, insurance, international working, and business transformation, which will be hugely beneficial to the organisation. He joins at an exciting time for MPS and will play a key role in our future plans.”

Richard will join MPS on 4 May 2021.

About MPS

The Medical Protection Society Limited (“MPS”) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of almost 300,000 members around the world. Membership provides access to expert advice and support and can also provide, depending on the type of membership required, the right to request indemnity for any complaints or claims arising from professional practice.

Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This can include clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.

Our philosophy is to support safe practice in medicine and dentistry by helping to avert problems in the first place. We do this by promoting risk management through our workshops, E-learning, clinical risk assessments, publications, conferences, lectures and presentations.

MPS is not an insurance company. All the benefits of membership of MPS are discretionary as set out in the Memorandum and Articles of Association.
