Dr Ben White

Medicolegal Consultant, Cases Team Lead and Deputy Medical Director at Medical Protection

Ben completed his medical degree at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne before moving to Oxford to complete his GP vocational training. Following this, Ben worked as a General Practitioner in the UK for 11 years. During this time he was also involved in the teaching and training of medical students and new GPs.

Ben joined Medical Protection in 2016 as a Medicolegal Consultant ultimately focussing on the management of regulatory, inquest and criminal matters. Ben has been leading a team of Case Managers since November 2019. These Case Managers advise our members on a wide range of medicolegal matters. Ben completed the Diploma in Legal Medicine in 2019.

Ben has been working as one of the Deputy Medical Directors for Medical Protection since the beginning of this year.

Cathy Taylor

Industrial Relations Officer, BMA

Cathy Taylor has worked as a BMA Industrial Relations Officer since 2006 and covers the West Sussex / Brighton / West Surrey area.

Cathy’s role involves training BMA reps and supporting them in their negotiations with NHS Trusts. The IRO role also includes involvement in all collective issues affecting BMA members in the area and supporting and advising regional BMA branch of practice committees. Cathy has previously worked as an Employment Adviser and Senior Employment Adviser at the BMA since 1999, advising BMA members on all areas of employment.

Dr Andrew Barton

Regional Co-ordinator for London, BMA

Andrew has had a varied career in the public sector and with trade unions. Andrew has been a nurse and health visitor in the NHS and a tutor in further education and has been a manager in the health service and managed a UK wide service at the RCN.

He had retired early to complete his PhD when the BMA head-hunted him for an Industrial Relations Officer post like Cathy. Andrew has been the BMA London regional coordinator for the past 12 years and his overall aim is to ensure a good service for BMA members in the Capital.
