What is coming up this year for members in Hong Kong

My colleague, Dr Danny Lee took a moment to reflect at the Chinese New Year, and I wanted to share what updates we have for the remainder of this year.

There have been lots of exciting events and meetings taking place so far, and at Medical Protection, we will be able to continue acting on your feedback to make further improvements. 

We are introducing an enhanced 24/7 point of first contact system so members will be able to contact us more easily whenever they need us. This will be provided by a combination of colleagues across the organisation – including a dedicated Hong Kong team and a range of experts from around the world. 

To support our members in accessing high-quality legal assistance, we have strengthened our arrangements with a number of experienced law firms in Hong Kong, including Howse Williams and Woody Chang Law Office. They will be available to provide legal support to Medical Protection members as part of our broader panel, helping ensure timely and appropriate assistance when needed.

Finally, I look forward to a year of further work on behalf of members to support policy changes and advocate for best practice.

Over the past year, we have played an active role in supporting developments across community medicine, primary care, and medical education, including enhancements in undergraduate training, medicolegal education, and clinical internships. We have also contributed to key regulatory discussions, including amendments to the Dentists Registration Ordinance. 

Equally important has been our focus on listening to members and understanding the challenges you face in practice. This has been particularly evident in our engagement with the obstetrics and gynaecology community, where we have recognised the specific pressures and long-term risks associated with the specialty. In response, we have enhanced our support including extending long-tail protection at the beginning of the year to ensure you have a peace of mind.

Looking ahead, we anticipate a continued period of activity and remain committed to working constructively with policymakers and industry leaders. By actively listening to you and drawing on your insights, we will continue to support and shape developments that reflect and protect your interests.
