Simon Kayll, Chief Executive, Medical Protection
Simon Kayll became Chief Executive of Medical Protection in 2012, having previously served as Finance Director since 1999. Simon gained a BA (Hons) in accounting and economics at Oxford Brookes University, before going on to achieve an MBA at Manchester Business School. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Dr Graham Howarth, Head of Medical Services – South Africa, Medical Protection and Conference Chair
Dr Howarth is a qualified obstetrician and gynaecologist with a master’s degree in bioethics. Prior to moving to the UK in 2003, Dr Howarth was an associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Pretoria, and the Founding Head of the faculty’s Bioethics Department. He now leads the medical services for South Africa at Medical Protection.
Dr Shivani Chirkut, Medicolegal Consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Chirkut is qualified with a medical degree from the University of Cape Town and a master's degree in Bioethics and Health Law from the University of Witwatersrand.
With her special interest in Medical Law, Dr Chirkut has been instrumental in both the academic and applied training of various stakeholders from both the medical and legal fraternities involved in the multidisciplinary management of patients involved in criminal aspects of the law.
Dr Zarina Sonday, Medicolegal Consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Sonday is a specialist in nuclear medicine, and a Fellow of the College of Nuclear Physicians. She is currently completing a master's degree in Applied Ethics (social and political ethics).
Over the years, she has amassed a vast knowledge and interest in imaging, bioethics, and the resolution of ethical dilemmas at the interface of social justice.
Dr Nonkululeko Blesset Nkambule, Medicolegal Consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Nkambule is a medical doctor with extensive experience working in the public healthcare sector in South Africa. She also has a degree in Law and postgraduate diploma in Occupational Health and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Dr Nkambule is passionate about empowering healthcare professionals to achieve their professional obligations and ambitions within the ambit of risk averse and informed ethical decision-making.
Dr Volker Hitzeroth, Medicolegal Consultant, Medical Protection
Dr Hitzeroth is a qualified psychiatrist with several postgraduate qualifications including a master’s degree in Medical Law and Ethics. Prior to moving to the United Kingdom, where he currently works as a Medicolegal Consultant for Medical Protection, he was in full-time private practice in South Africa. His clinical interests include health and wellbeing, teaching and training, addictions, medical law, and medical ethics. Alongside a number of colleagues, he founded the South African Addiction Medicine Society.
Dr Yash Naidoo, Case Manager, Medical Protection
Dr Naidoo is a former healthcare and dispute resolution attorney at two of South Africa’s Big Five law firms.
His legal experience includes assisting private and public healthcare institutions in defending medical malpractice claims, assisting healthcare practitioners and institutions with proceedings before their regulators (HPCSA, AHPCSA, SAPC and OHSC), advising clients in respect of South African healthcare regulations, and assisting foreign-qualified medical practitioners in obtaining registration with the HPCSA.

No. You do not need to download or install any software to join the conference. You only need to have access to the internet. - Can I ask questions during the conference?

Yes, the conference will include social and networking opportunities throughout the event. - Is a live transcript available during the conference?

If you are registered with the HPCSA, Medical Protection will inform them about your participation at the conference, based on your attendance.
According to the HPCSA, you should watch the entire conference to receive two ethics points. If you watch between 61-119 minutes, you will receive just one point. [subject to conference certification].
If you are not registered with the HPCSA, you will receive a certificate after ten working days of the conference via email. Please check your inbox/spam box.
