Corporate and Group Membership

What does corporate membership of Medical Protection provide?

Corporate membership of Medical Protection gives the organisation access to assistance and indemnity in respect of the defence and/or settlement of civil law claims of clinical negligence made against the company. Such claims might arise from the act or omission of the organisation or its employees or individual contractors for whom the organisation is responsible.

Corporate members may also apply for assistance in dealing with complaints and managing adverse incidents arising from clinical treatment.

The benefits of membership also include access to our helpline services, Medical Protection publications and risk management advice and discounts on courses run by Medical Protection Educational Services. For corporate membership enquiries, contact corporateenquiry@medicalprotection.org.  

Are there any limitations?

It is a condition of corporate membership of Medical Protection that all registered medical or dental practitioners employed or engaged by the organisation have and maintain their own individual professional indemnity arrangements. This is often their individual membership of Medical Protection.

Corporate membership will not provide indemnity to any registered medical or dental practitioner or to the organisation in respect of the act or omission of any registered medical or dental practitioner even where the organisation is legally liable for that act or omission.

Corporate membership is offered on a claims-made basis and we will usually indicate likely financial and territorial limits when exercising our discretion to assist or indemnify in respect of claims in line with your organisation’s requirements. Further details can be provided.

Group membership

Group membership of Medical Protection enables doctors working in a group arrangement (with a minimum of three whole equivalent clinicians), either as employees, or partners to retain individual membership of Medical Protection but to be administered on a group basis and benefit from centrally administered membership and, often, preferential subscription rates.

A group membership may benefit your organisation in a number of ways:

  • Provides the reassurance that all your employed doctors have indemnity arrangements in place.
  • Ease administration.
  • Provide access to indemnity for employed doctors as an employment benefit.
  • To ensure your organisation complies with any commercial obligations to maintain corporate indemnity or insurance.
  • Preferential subscription rates.
