News stories blaming GPs for the rise in emergency admissions has caused unrest among out-of-hours GPs across the UK. Here, the Deputy Chairman of the BMA’s GP Committee, Dr Richard Vautrey, responds to those comments, arguing that out-of-hours GPs are struggling to meet the demand on the service.

He says the challenge is to get the right level of resource into out-of-hours organisations so that they can employ the right number of doctors and nurses to meet patient demand.
