Graeme Cleland is the managing director at Taurus Healthcare Ltd, a business comprising of 55 staff that he set up himself. Here, he helps to provide primary care services at scale, provide out of hospital care to the public and negotiate contracts with the NHS, CCG and regional commissioners.
Coming from a business background, Graeme moved into the health industry in 2004 and hasn’t looked back since. It’s a field he’s become an expert in, with a number of great successes in his most recent role.
By analysing existing spending, re-designing the pathways of care and implementing the clinical model in Herefordshire, he managed to reduce costs by £2.7m per annum on a Shared Risk and Reward Model with the NHS. He also won the £1.1m per annum Integrated Sexual Health Contract for Herefordshire. Plus, he generated £1.1m in revenue per annum from the CCG to provide an Integrated Care Practitioner Service to 24 practices, which helps to facilitate early discharge and prevent re-admission, ultimately saving £3m per annum.
All of this has lead Graeme to be recognised by the NHS and the wider GP community nationally for being one of the 3 primary care innovators delivering primary care at scale by integrating the partnership in a limited liability model.
