How your subscription is changing

When state-backed indemnity comes into effect in April 2019, your Medical Protection subscription will change and you may be eligible for a refund. To clarify how we have calculated any refund due to you and your new subscription rates, we have provided some indicative examples below.

Please note the following:

  • Refunds must be credited back to you and cannot be used as payment towards outstanding subscriptions or new Claims Protection membership.
  • Your renewal date will not change.

Please be aware prices are indicative only and do not represent specific member subscriptions or current pricing.

Annual subscription August renewal rate

Example 1 of how subscriptions are changing
  • You paid your £8,000 annual subscription in full in August 2018.
  • When the state-backed indemnity scheme comes into effect in April 2019, only eight months of your annual subscription have been paid. Pro rata, that works out at £5,333.
  • You only need to pay your new Professional Protection membership for the remaining four months of the year. Pro rata from an annual rate of £800, this is just £267.
  • In total you need to pay £5,333 + £267 = £5,600
You’ve already paid £8,000, meaning you are due a refund of £2,400.

Monthly Direct Debit August renewal date

Example 2 of how GPT subscription rates are changing
  • You started paying your £8,000 annual subscription in August 2018 in 10 monthly payments of £800 a month.
  • When the state-backed indemnity scheme comes into effect in April 2019, only eight months of your annual subscription have been paid. Pro rata, that works out at £5,333. You’ve already paid in 8 x £800 = £6,400.
  • You only need to pay your new Professional Protection membership for the remaining four months of the year. Pro rata, from an annual rate of £800 this is just £267.
  • In total you need to pay £5,333 + £267 = £5,600
You’ve already paid £6,400 meaning you are due a refund of £800, with no further payments due until your renewal date.

Monthly Direct Debit subscription January renewal date

Example 3 of how GP subscriptions are chaning
  • You started paying your £8,000 annual subscription in January 2019 in ten monthly payments of £800 each month.
  • When the state-backed indemnity scheme comes into effect in April 2019, only three months of your annual subscription are due. Pro rata that works out at £2,000. You’ve already paid in 3 x £800 = £2,400.
  • You only need to pay your new Professional Protection membership for the remaining nine months of the year. Pro rata from an annual rate of £800, this is just £600
  • In total you need to pay £2,000 + £600 = £2,600
As you’ve already paid £2,400, membership subscription still due is £200
Your remaining seven monthly instalments will be £28.57 a month.
