We promote safer medical practice by running education and risk management programmes

Webinar: Doctors in the dock

  • Dates: 10 – 10 Jul, 2019

Times: 19.30 – 20.30

Suitable: Medical Protection members
Free for members

We know that a no-blame medical culture will play a key role in improving patient safety, but how do we keep moving towards this when doctors are frequently facing criminal charges?

Using real-life examples from our case files, we’ll examine how criminal cases can develop, and what you can do along the way to keep yourself safe.

By the end of this webinar you will:
  • understand the legal and regulatory framework of Ireland
  • be familiar with issues that give rise to criminal investigations
  • understand what to do in the event of a serious untoward incident
  • know what to do when receiving a call from Gardai.
Presented by:

Dr Robert Hendry
Medical Director, Medical Protection

Dr Rob Hendry was born and brought up in Glasgow and studied medicine at Dundee University. After graduating in 1981 he undertook a number of hospital appointments before becoming a partner in an urban teaching practice in Dundee in 1986.

He developed an interest in medical law and completed an MPhil in law and ethics in medicine at Glasgow University in 1992.

Having done some consultancy work for Medical Protection and having taught part-time at Dundee University, Rob took up a permanent appointment as a medicolegal adviser with the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland in 1996. He remained there until he joined Medical Protection to set up our Edinburgh office in 2009.
