Protect your past with MPS

If you would like to transfer your professional protection to MPS from your current medical protection organisation (MPO), but are concerned about any medicolegal problems relating to previous incidents might be handled, we can help.

For a small fee, which combined with your subscription fee is still less than the current MDU annual rate, you won't have to rely on your previous medical protection organisation. As long as you stay with us for the next three years you'll benefit from access to expert support and advice from MPS should any medicolegal problems (please see the notes below) come to light as a result of any incidents that have occurred in the past 5 years.

Cost

The current MPS subscription rate for an SpR is £275. For an extra £100, to be paid by direct debit in each of the first three years of MPS membership - a total additional payment of £300 over three years - you can benefit from MPS retrospective membership. This will give you the added peace of mind of knowing you can seek assistance from MPS with any medicolegal problems that come to light as a result of incidents that occurred at anytime during the five years before your membership started whilst you were a member of another MPO.

If you would like to protect your previous practice with MPS, simply complete the declaration form (on the right-hand side) and submit it with your completed application form. All we ask is that you complete the three years' membership required and pay the supplementary fee.

Please note: 

• Access to the full benefits of membership for previous incidents is dependent on payment over three years by direct debit of the full £300 supplement together with your normal membership subscription. Non-specialist private practice is covered up to £7.5k in the membership year, subject to the list of exclusions (please see MPS subscription rate booklet for exclusions).
• Retrospective membership is limited to doctors in recognised training posts who benefit from NHS indemnity.
• Retrospective membership is only available to doctors who have been a member of an MPO for the last 5 years.
