GMC consultation on reporting criminal and regulatory proceedings within and outside the UK

Introduction

We welcome the opportunity to comment on the revised guidance on reporting convictions and regulatory proceedings within and outside the UK. We found the draft guidance to be comprehensive and straightforward, it is important that our members are encouraged to contact MPS if they find themselves in such a situation.

Specific comments

Timeframes

The guidance does not specify a specific timeframe within which convictions and regulatory proceedings should be reported.  We would suggest that it may be valuable to give some detail of what would thought to be a reasonable timeframe for reporting.

Paragraph 8 – possession of cannabis

This paragraph should make it clear that a warning for possession of any illegal drug, including cannabis must be declared.
