MPS announces subscription rates freeze for UK GPs
20 March 2008
MPS is rewarding the loyalty of its members by keeping GP subscription rates at the same level as 2007. The subscription rate for a full time employed GP will remain at £4,695. GP registrar rates, sessional and part time rates are also being frozen. Given the prevailing rate of inflation this represents a reduction, in real terms.
Commenting on the announcement, MPS Chief Executive Tony Mason said: “There will be no increase in subscriptions for our GP members this year. We believe that MPS’s comprehensive indemnity is the best protection for doctors and are pleased to be able to hold our subscription rates at a time when GPs are facing a range of challenges including commercialisation and changes to opening hours. As a result of careful financial planning over the past ten years we are in a strong financial position and I am pleased to announce that MPS will keep subscriptions for GP’s at the same level as last year.”
Tony Mason added: “MPS is a not for profit mutual organisation, we set subscriptions carefully each year to ensure we have sufficient funds to meet the costs of claims and complaints brought against our members at any time in the future. We have no external shareholders looking for dividends and always seek to set subscriptions that are fair to all members.”
MPS places a great importance on providing members with the highest quality support and advice and will be further strengthening and expanding the existing strong medicolegal team in 2008.
