MPS announces subscription rates freeze for UK hospital consultants

20 March 2008

MPS is rewarding the loyalty of its members by keeping the overwhelming majority of UK subscription rates at the same level as 2007.  Just over 98% of our hospital consultant members will see no increase or a reduction in their subscription rate.  Less than 2% will see any increase in their subscription rate this year. Given the prevailing rate of inflation this represents a reduction, in real terms.

Commenting on the announcement, MPS Chief Executive Tony Mason said: “There will be no increase in subscriptions for the overwhelming majority of our UK consultants. We believe MPS’s comprehensive indemnity is the best protection for doctors and we are pleased to be able to hold our subscription rates at a time when the profession continues to face a range of challenges. As a result of careful financial planning over the past ten years we are in a strong financial position and I am pleased to announce this subscription freeze for the majority of our hospital consultant members.”

Tony Mason added: “MPS is a not for profit mutual organisation, we set subscriptions carefully each year to ensure we have sufficient funds to meet the costs of claims and complaints brought against our members at any time in the future.  We have no external shareholders looking for dividends and always seek to set subscriptions that are fair to all members.”

MPS places a great importance on providing members with the highest quality support and advice and will be further strengthening and expanding the existing strong medicolegal team in 2008.
