New Doctor

Welcome to all new doctors and hello again to those slightly worn.

I must say that I became extremely nostalgic reading Sara Williams’ article on working abroad. The profession is fortunate that we do get opportunities to work abroad, enabling us to widen both professional and personal horizons. MPS provides indemnity to doctors across the globe, so don’t forget to contact our membership department when planning your adventures.

As a medicolegal adviser I’m asked nearly every day for advice on drafting reports, so I hope you find Hilary Steele’s practical article helpful. Report writing is now very much part of everyday clinical practice. As is end of life care. Rosemary Scott draws on her experiences.

David Wetherell’s “Day in the life of an F1 in Urology” brought a smile to my face. It may be a while since I did my house jobs, but the trials and tribulations are very similar. Also in this issue, read about current political issues facing junior medics, learn about a career in plastics (it’s more than facelifts) and find out how you can do your bit to improve patient safety.

I hope you enjoy this issue and please feel free to get in touch with your views: we welcome feedback and contributions for articles.

I’m off to watch Sicko... don’t forget to send in your wordsearch.
