Vol. 2 No. 2, 2009

Welcome to the latest edition of New Doctor. This is a really exciting time for MPS, as our new Edinburgh office opened in May. It is particularly exciting for me, as I’m in the process of relocating from our London office to join the Edinburgh team.

The new office is located on George Street, five minutes from Waverley railway station, in the heart of the city. In this bright new issue of New Doctor we hear from a selection of GPs who have taken interesting twists in their working lives and developed their careers in ways that they would not necessarily have envisaged.

It’s reassuring to hear that there are still plenty of choices out there for new doctors to consider in the future. Sara Williams provides an essential guide to working at night and how to look after yourself both mentally and physically.

I hope you like the design of the new issue and we look forward to receiving your comments, whether they are positive or negative!

Clarification - article on Botox

The article on Botox injections featured in this edition provides general guidance on the pitfalls of practice for those allowed to prescribe Botox. However, if you are a Foundation Year 2 doctor you are only allowed to practise Botox in an approved practice setting. It is highly unlikely that a cosmetic or beauty centre would fall into this category. A list of approved practice settings can be found on the GMC website.
