Here is a list of regulators in the UK.

  • CHRE - The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE) is a statutory overarching body, which aims to promote best practice and consistency in the regulation of healthcare professionals. It covers nine regulators, including the General Medical Council.
  • General Medical Council - Responsible for keeping a register of qualified doctors, fostering good medical practice and disciplining doctors.
  • Health Professions Council - The Health Professions Council regulates 13 professions, including operating department practitioners and physiotherapists.
  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain - The regulatory and professional body for pharmacists. It has a statutory duty to maintain the register of pharmacists and pharmacy premises. There are currently 43,000 member pharmacists working in all sectors of the profession both in Britain and overseas.
  • The Royal Society of Medicine - Aims to provide a broad range of educational activities and opportunities for doctors, dentists, veterinary surgeons and allied health-care professionals.
  • Association of Operating Department Practitioners - Monitors standards of education and training, maintains codes of practice and registers operating department practitioners.
