This workshop highlights the common risks for medication errors in primary care, including repeat prescribing, communication and monitoring problems, and discusses risk management strategies to enhance patient safety.

The workshop explores:

  • What is a medication error is, the frequency and how it occurs
  • The common pitfalls of a prescribing system
  • The mechanisms by which participants can identify and assess prescribing risk in their own practice
  • How to apply risk management principles to reduce/eliminate the risks identified.

Target audience

GP trainees, GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, practice managers and clinical governance leads.

Format and Duration

A three hour workshop that uses a combination of short presentations, discussions, case scenarios and practical exercises.
