Opportunity with the merger of the GMC and PMETB

The dawn of a simpler, clearer framework of regulation for medical education and training is almost here, as April brings the merger of the GMC and the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB).

We welcome the merger and see it as a great opportunity to make patient safety and risk management a core component of medical under/postgraduate curricula. There is currently no universal place for these topics.

Teaching these skills from the beginning reinforces how important patient safety is and should help to reduce future medical errors and adverse events.
