MPS in Scotland
Dr Rob Hendry, Head of Medical Services in Edinburgh, provides an update on the MPS office in Edinburgh one year on
It has been just over a year since MPS opened its first ever Scottish office, on George Street in Edinburgh. The first year has been an exciting and busy time, and has shown that establishing a base in Scotland was an essential move by MPS.
During that time, we have been made even more aware of how important a move this was, with health and legal policy in Scotland becoming increasingly divergent from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
MPS’s presence in Scotland has allowed us to play a key role in informing and advising decision-makers about the implications that their policies can have on healthcare professionals and their patients. Of course, our location has also allowed us to fulfil our principal role of representing and supporting MPS members in Scotland.
The regulatory and legislative framework in which healthcare is practised is becoming ever more complex; Scotland has spearheaded its own policy developments and these have been seen with the roll-out of the electronic summary care records, the piloting of the patient portal, and the work on alternative compensation systems in healthcare.
With a full team of experienced advisers to cover the medical and dental spectrum, MPS’s Edinburgh office can match the dynamism and considerable level of expertise that has resided for many years in our London and Leeds offices.
Being at the heart of the profession is one of MPS’s core values and the team aims to adopt a central role in Scotland’s ever-increasing number of debates. As a team, we’re firmly established and very much looking forward to developing and expanding our operation in the years ahead.
