Welcome to your latest edition of New Doctor and to those who are just starting in their new FY1 posts. This is an exciting time, but it is daunting.
Changeover is a stressful time and integrating yourself quickly into your new teams is vital to ensure continuity of patient care. Even though you are training yourselves, the way you conduct yourself has far reaching implications as a doctor.
In this edition, Dr Bradshaw, medicolegal adviser at MPS talks more about this and in particular the apparent blurring of personal and professional conduct. Along a similar line, your conduct even if seemingly in private, may impact on your working life. With the increasing use of social media this is more important than ever.
Professor Sir Peter Rubin, chairman of the GMC summarises the GMC’s latest guidance around this topic. As always we welcome your comments on this edition and please do not hesitate to get in touch. You are not alone, seek help from MPS if you need to.
Dr Gordon McDavid
Editor-in-chief and MPS Medicolegal Adviser
