Professor Trevor Burke

Professor Trevor Burke became a member of Council in May 2010 when he was appointed as Chairman of the Board for Dental Protection. Trevor had been a member of Dental Protection board since October 2003.
Professor Burke graduated from Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He worked in general practice from 1974 to 1992 in Manchester, also working in the Unit of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Manchester. Trevor has been Professor of Primary Dental Care at the University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry since 2000.
He has authored or co-authored four books and 225 published papers and has been awarded over 75 research grants. His main research interests include properties and applications of tooth-coloured restorative materials, clinical evaluation of materials and their performance in general dental practice, the design of an index of oral health for clinical audit and quality control and ill health retirement among dentists.
Professor Burke is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Editorial Director of Dental Update.
