Cognitive Institute

In 2007, MPS acquired the Cognitive Institute of Australia – one of the largest providers of communication skills and risk-management training to healthcare professionals in the world.

It was established in Australia in 1998 by Mark O Brien (Medical Director of the Cognitive Institute) and Matthew O Brien (Managing Director of the Cognitive Institute) to provide specialist risk management, leadership and communication skills training for healthcare managers and clinicians.

The acquisition has enabled MPS Educational Services – MPS’s consultancy and training company – to expand its risk management and education programme to MPS’s growing international membership. It also means MPS Educational Services will be able offer even more to MPS members, healthcare organisations and professionals in Ireland.

The purchase of the Cognitive Institute included its portfolio of 30 courses and workshops, which operate in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand - around 10,000 people attend these workshops annually.
