Working for Claims & Legal Services

Members across the world rely on MPS for help in dealing with legal and ethical aspects of clinical practice. MPS’s Claims and Litigation Department undertakes a range of work including clinical negligence claims, GMC, GDC and other disciplinary work for MPS members.

Our approach is to provide members with a team that has the best balance of expertise and experience,  tailored to the needs of their specific case. There are two distinct aspects to the legal services provided by the Claims and Legal Services Department:

Claims management

A team of claims managers provides a focused claims management service to bring about appropriate and cost-effective resolutions to clinical negligence claims. Our claims managers are qualified solicitors or barristers with considerable experience in dealing with clinical negligence claims. 
Once proceedings are issued, the claims managers instruct either in-house or external panel solicitors to go on the court record, and effectively manage the claim until its conclusion. Claims managers deal with claims from all the jurisdictions in which MPS has members, and work closely with medicolegal and dentolegal advisers to provide an expert and professional service to members.

Litigation service

We have a team of in-house solicitors who go on the court record in English cases to protect members’ interests when proceedings have been issued. In addition, they deal with GMC, GDC and other disciplinary work. They work closely with the medicolegal and dentolegal advisers and claims managers in providing a comprehensive service to members covering all aspects of civil litigation and regulatory work.


Our Claims and Litigation team is supported by paralegals either in claims assistant or in litigation support roles.
The ability to work effectively as part of a team is fundamental to the success of the Claims and Legal Services Department. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop good working relationships, both with colleagues and external organisations, are also central, and all our staff are highly motivated to provide the best possible service to members.
