- Fulltime, permanent
The Medical Protection Society Limited (“MPS”) is the world’s leading protection organisation for doctors, dentists and healthcare professionals. We protect and support the professional interests of more than 300,000 members around the world. Membership provides access to expert advice and support together with the right to request indemnity for any complaints or claims arising from professional practice.
Our in-house experts assist with the wide range of legal and ethical problems that arise from professional practice. This can include clinical negligence claims, complaints, medical and dental council inquiries, legal and ethical dilemmas, disciplinary procedures, inquests and fatal accident inquiries.
As a result of growing our in-house legal function, we are recruiting for Legal Assistants to join MPS at our offices in Leeds on a permanent basis.
As a Legal Assistant you will provide professional support to the in house legal team, helping to provide support and advice to our members on cases, primarily in relation to Healthcare Regulatory and Inquest cases. From time to time you will also provide general legal advice.
The successful candidate will be involved with the collection and collation of clinical records, factual and expert evidence. You will undertake research into clinical and legal issues and assist in case planning and drafting of instructions. Importantly you will monitor dashboards and understand content to enable prioritisation, identify matters which can be actioned and those that need escalating to a Legal Adviser. This role will also see you correspond directly with members, experts and other third parties when necessary.
In order to be considered for the role you must possess a legal degree, or other relevant qualifications, and have previous experience of operating in a legal or claims environment.
Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate investigative and analytical skills, as well as the ability to learn in-house systems quickly and comfortable on all Windows suite software. Due to the nature of the role you must be able to communicate effectively at all levels and work autonomously and to tight deadlines.
In return, we offer a great working environment in conveniently located offices in the City Centre. We offer an exceptional benefits package, including a 12% pension scheme, 25 days paid holiday (in addition to public holidays), private medical insurance and a health care cash plan, childcare vouchers and an annual bonus scheme.
