27 Jul 2011

The Gauteng Department of Health has tested more than three million people for HIV since April 2010.

The tests were carried out in line with the HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT) campaign that was rolled out last year across public and private services. Since the launch, all public health facilities in Gauteng have begun providing free walk-in services for health screening and HCT.

As well as the HIV tests:

  • A further 837,000 people were also screened for TB
  • Over 93,500 were tested for cervical cancer
  • Almost 36,500 were tested for diabetes
  • Around 63,300 were tested for high blood pressure.

To date, almost 13 million people have been tested for HIV across the country.
