MPS ALERT: MPS position on commercial telemedicine services

It is highly unlikely that MPS will assist a member who is registered with the HPCSA with any problems that arise from their participation in telemedicine in South Africa
MPS notes the recent launch of some telemedicine websites. MPS is also aware of the HPCSA comments published on 5 May 2011 and that three telemedicine initiatives had been referred to its Undesirable Business Practice Committee for consideration.
Following the HPCSA’s statement, we would caution that it is highly unlikely that MPS will assist a member who is registered with the HPCSA with any problems that arise from their participation in telemedicine in South Africa.
MPS members are advised not to participate in commercial telemedicine services until the HPCSA makes a definitive ruling on the subject.
