Consultation open on mental health

The proposed Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Bill is the subject of a new consultation, opened by the Ministry of Health.

The impending repeal of the existing Mental Disorders and Treatment Act (MDTA) has led to the introduction of the proposed Bill.

It aims to enhance certain safeguards, protecting the interests of patients who are compulsorily admitted into psychiatric institutions.

The closing date for submissions is 14 March 2008.
