SMC revises its application procedures for trainees

16 Mar 2011

The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) has reviewed its application procedures for conditionally and temporarily registered doctors, who are required to undergo rotations in Accredited Healthcare Institutions under BST, AST, SST, SRS or FMCP training schemes.

Under the new system, employers of conditionally or temporarily-registered doctors who are part of one of these schemes will need to inform the SMC about the next placement to be completed by the trainee. The employer will be required to complete a prescribed form along with a letter of undertaking signed by the new training provider, and an administrative payment of $65.

Employers must also inform the SMC when the doctor resigns or drops out of one of the training schemes. If a conditionally-registered doctor wishes to change their employer or training placement, the new rules state that the employer must first apply to the SMC along with the necessary payment.

The revised rules came into effect on 1 February 2011.
