Overseas students to prove English language skills
01 Nov 2011
International medical students who graduate from schools where lessons are not conducted in English must prove they are proficient in the language in order to qualify.
The International English Language Testing System (or the equivalent Test of English as a Foreign Language or Occupational English Test) is there so that students’ proficiency in English can be provided to the Singapore Medical Council when they graduate.
Under the tests, students must achieve:
- At least a score of seven for the reading, writing, listening and speaking components under the International English Language Testing System
- At least 250 marks for the computer-based test; 600 marks for the paper-based test; or 100 marks for the internet-based test under the Test of English as a Foreign Language
- At least a grade B under the Occupational English Test.
