Appointment of new Chief Executive for the Medical Protection Society

He has played a crucial role in building MPS to its current position as the world’s leading indemnifier of healthcare professionals

The Medical Protection Society (MPS) has appointed a new Chief Executive to succeed Tony Mason who retires at the end of the year. Simon Kayll, who is currently Finance Director at MPS, has been appointed and will take up the post on 1 January 2012.

Announcing the appointment, Dr Nick Davies, Chairman of MPS, said: “We are delighted that Simon has accepted this important position. Not only does he have a deep knowledge and understanding of the highly specialised field of professional indemnity, he has also played a crucial role in building MPS to its current position as the world’s leading indemnifier of healthcare professionals. More than 270,000 members in over 40 countries around the world benefit from the powerful combination of MPS financial strength and outstanding expertise in the medicolegal field.”

MPS’s current Chief Executive, Tony Mason said: “Simon has worked at MPS since 1994, and as Finance Director for the past 12 years. I am pleased to know that I will be leaving MPS in safe, strong and secure hands, which will keep the interests of our members at the heart of all we do.”

Commenting on his appointment, Simon Kayll said: “I do not underestimate the responsibility of the role or the challenges we will face in these financially demanding times. It is a privilege to lead an organisation which plays such an important part in supporting and representing individual doctors and dentists as well as wider professional interests, founded on 120 years experience.”

  1. Biography for Simon Kayll: Simon gained a BA (Hons) in accounting and economics at Oxford Brookes University, before going on to achieve an MBA at Manchester Business School. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Charted Accountants in England and Wales. Simon qualified as an accountant with RSM Robson Rhodes LLP and spent a number of years as a management consultant, specialising in the financial service and legal sectors.
  2. Tony Mason will finish his role as Chief Executive on 31 December 2011. A rigorous recruitment process was undertaken by MPS, in which the role was advertised externally and candidates were shortlisted, tested and a decision was taken by MPS Council.
