MCNZ issues new statement on cosmetic procedures

28 Oct 2011

The Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) has issued a statement outlining the standards it expects of doctors who perform cosmetic procedures.

It reminds doctors to ensure they have taken informed consent before carrying out a cosmetic procedure, and to ensure the patient has realistic expectations about the outcome.

The statement provides best practice guidance about maintaining patients’ trust, and working within the limits of your competence. It also outlines other scenarios where there is potential for conflict between the doctor and patient, and explains the differences between Category 1 and Category 2 procedures.

The guidance is next due for a review in October 2016.
