New guidance on chronic kidney disease
16 Mar 2009
Kidney Health New Zealand (KHNZ) has issued new guidance on managing chronic kidney disease. The guide, “Chronic Kidney Disease Management in General Practice”, has been sent to over 3,800 GP practices in New Zealand in an attempt to raise awareness of the condition.
The document has been created to publicise how early detection of chronic kidney disease can reduce the chance of it progressing. It will also be used to help GPs make appropriate referrals to nephrology services. It is estimated that there are currently 200,000 people in New Zealand suffering from a kidney condition.
The Ministry of Health, the Royal New Zealand College of General Practice, health practitioners and kidney specialists all contributed to the guide.
