$10 million scheme launched to keep doctors in New Zealand
27 Feb 2009
A scheme to encourage young doctors, nurses and midwives to keep practising in New Zealand has been launched.
The voluntary bonding scheme aims to put an end to the shortage of doctors, nurses and midwives in New Zealand. The system will include writing-off student loan debts and offering cash incentives to medical graduates who are prepared to work in less popular specialties.
It is estimated that the scheme will cost $10 million a year to run, and hopes that around 100 doctors will volunteer to take place in its first year.
