Practitioners of traditional medicine must register, says Ministry

28 Apr 2009

Practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine will soon have to register with the Ministry of Health, under a new act to be brought in later this year.

As part of the act, a council will also be brought in to regulate the practitioners, which will be made up of practitioners’ representatives and ministry officials.

The council will develop guidelines and regulations to ensure health professionals practise ethically and within the law.

There are currently over 10,000 practitioners of traditional and complementary medicine – all of whom will be obliged to register with the Ministry of Health when the act comes into force.
