New laws may uphold donor pledges
15 Oct 2007
Family members of organ donors may lose their right to object to a donor's pledge, if amendments to various legislations are made, according to The Star.
The Health Ministry is considering making changes to the Human Tissue Act and Medical Act that would compel donor relatives to accept organ donations, many of which are made without their knowledge.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said these amendments would only be made if the majority of the public agreed to them - and would only apply to individuals of legal age.
