MPS launches new publication for junior doctors in Ireland

04 Jul 2011

A new publication for junior doctors in Ireland is launched today by the Medical Protection Society (MPS).

New Doctor looks at the challenges junior doctors face as they embark on their career and offers useful advice to assist them on their journey.

The publication will be distributed to all MPS junior members and follows on from the success of the UK’s New Doctor and Junior Doctor in South Africa.

The first issue, due out today, is packed full of informative articles written by MPS’s writers and medicolegal advisers and interns from across Ireland.

From the importance of accurate record keeping to top tips for working abroad, New Doctor contains real-life examples and advice to ensure junior doctors are fully equipped for their role.

MPS Senior Medicolegal Adviser and Editor-in-chief, Dr George Fernie says: “The aim of New Doctor is to heighten the awareness of potential areas of vulnerability for our members.

“The medical profession has become increasingly accountable in recent years and junior doctors need to know about the different issues they may face.

“This publication will assist them to better understand the ethical and legal aspects of medicine and give them advice about some of the circumstances in which they may have to justify professional decisions”.
