Irish respiratory deaths second-highest in Europe
29 February 2008
A new report by the Irish Thoracic Society has found that Ireland has the second-highest death rate from respiratory disease in Europe.
The second edition of the INHALE (Ireland Needs Healthier Airways and Lungs) report found that the death rate is topped only by Kyrgyzstan, the former Soviet republic.
Respiratory disease still causes one in five deaths in Ireland, with related death rates twice the EU average.
