Dementia patients benefit from special unit
18 February 2008
A new study published by the Health Service Executive has revealed the benefits of relocating dementia patients to a specialist care unit.
The results of the study point toward "rich and compelling evidence" of the positive effects of such relocation for dementia sufferers.
The 14-bed specialist care unit, in Mount Carmel Hospital, Clonakilty, Co Cork, was created three years ago in the style of a traditional Irish rural home, with personalised bedrooms.
