Review of the Mental Health Act 2001

The Department of Health has established a steering group to review the provisions of the Mental Health Act 2001, including:

• Its general operation since its commencement
• The extent to which the recommendations of ‘A Vision for Change’ could or should be underpinned by legislation
• The provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities
• The current economic environment.

Comments on the Act were submitted by the deadline of 7 October 2011.
