Medical Council approves new registration rules

20 Sep 2011

The Medical Council has approved new rules governing the registration of medical practitioners.

No changes were made to the draft amendment of the rules following a month-long public consultation process last year.

The new set of rules replaces both the registration rules and the rules specifying pre-registration examinations and exemptions. The most significant change is to the eligibility requirements for general registration.

Minimal changes have been made to the way in which medical practitioners become eligible for internship, trainee specialist, specialist or visiting EEA registration.

A new revised guide to registration will to be published once the new rules have been adopted.
