General Practice

“When you are in the room, you are on your own.”

Working in general practice brings with it its own problems and challenges. Unlike working in the hospital sector, you can personally become the subject of a claim for clinical negligence.

Peace of mind

MPS can give you peace of mind by offering unlimited discretionary indemnity to meet the financial consequences of clinical negligence claims should you need it. You will be expected to work far more autonomously than you will have been used to in hospital.

MPS can provide a valuable source of confidential, independent advice.

Working in a practice setting GP trainees have told us that they often feel very vulnerable working in a GP setting for the first time.

Medicolegal support

Your GP trainer should be close at hand to offer you advice and assistance should you need it. However, don’t forget the medicolegal support that is also available to you as an MPS member. You can talk through your problem with a medicolegal advisor (many of whom have experience working in general practice).

Don’t forget that in an emergency this advice is available 24 hours a day.

Important information about your subscription rate as a GP trainee

We offer specific rates for those GP trainees undertaking locum work in their final year of training. These are very competitive and are calculated to reflect the number of weeks you choose to be a locum.

Further information can be found in the subscription rates booklet for GP trainees.
