How to be good

“Good medical practice” is a broad term, covering the ways in which doctors are expected to conduct themselves and treat their patients in a professional manner.

The Medical Council’s A Guide to Professional Conduct and Ethics (2009) defines what is expected of you as a doctor which, in turn, defines the structure of the way your performance will be evaluated. It states: “Good medical practice is based on a relationship of trust between the profession and society, in which doctors are expected to meet the highest standards of professional practice and behaviour.”

Emphasis is placed on maintaining good relationships with patients, and following correct procedures if things do go wrong. In this edition of GP Trainee, we have brought together some advice and handy tips that will help you during your time as a trainee and beyond.
